Funky Sole is a long running funk and soul vinyl DJ dance party that started many moons ago, somewhere around the year 2001(?). Lead by Music Man Miles, aka Miles Tackett of Breakestra, it has consisted of a rotating cast of crate-diggers that play deep cuts from rare and obscure 45s from the 60’s and 70’s.
After a (14 year?) residency at the Echo, the event has spun out to other venues such as El Cid, the Bamboo Club in Long Beach, the Sassafras Saloon, and the Grand Star Jazz Club. Other DJs known to have been behind the decks have included; Hector Waluyo, DJ Connie Price, DJ Soft Touch, Mixmaster Wolf, Todd Simon, DJ Personify, Nick at Nite, Lili Bird, Scott Weaver, Dennis Owens, Octavio Camacho, Professor Shorthair, and Greg Belson to name a few!
Although the partnership with Spaceland and The Echo ended in 2021, LA’s Funkiest and Longest Running Dance Party continues to funk up wherever it touches down.
