Southern California has experienced a remarkable country music revival in recent years, transforming the region into an unexpected hotspot for twang, steel guitars, and honky-tonk rhythms. Once dominated by surf rock, hip-hop, and alternative scenes, SoCal has embraced its country roots with open arms.

This renaissance can be traced to several factors, including the migration of musicians from traditional country strongholds like Nashville and Texas, the growing popularity of Americana and alt-country genres, and the establishment of dedicated country music venues throughout the region. From intimate listening rooms in San Diego to spacious dance halls in the Inland Empire, fans now have multiple options to experience authentic country music any night of the week.

Music festivals like Stagecoach in Indio have also played a pivotal role, attracting both mainstream country stars and underground artists while cultivating a devoted local fanbase eager to support the scene year-round. The result is a vibrant, diverse country music community that honors traditional sounds while embracing California’s innovative spirit.

During the spring and summer months, you can find weekly country shows at The Echo’s Grand Ole Echo night. Desert 5 Spot is a relatively new location in Hollywood that is now the de facto center of town for Country music entertainment, regularly hosting both local and touring acts. Keep an eye open for shows promoted by Grand Ole Country Bunker, often occurring at Sassafras Saloon or the Bigfoot Lodge. There’s also the Honky Tonk Saloon at Maui Sugar Mill.

One great source to find out what’s going on in LA is Roots and Boots LA, who keeps a concert calendar that’s all Country music in Los Angeles.
