As part of the original deed of gift from John D and Adolph B Spreckels, all organ concerts held at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion are offered to the public at no charge. This is in keeping with the Spreckels brothers’ goal of introducing the healing spirit of live music to everyone, especially young people, regardless of their socio-economic status. Today, this 107-year tradition of generosity continues due to the support of the citizens of San Diego, the members of the Spreckels Organ Society, and donors from all over the world.

Athenaeum Music & Arts Library
Located in the heart of La Jolla, the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library stands as one of the few membership-supported libraries in the United States dedicated exclusively to music and art. Founded in 1899, this cultural institution has evolved into a cherished community resource that offers a diverse range of programs and collections.
The Athenaeum houses an extensive collection of materials including books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, sheet music, and artist monographs. Its specialized focus allows visitors to explore everything from classical composition to contemporary art movements in remarkable depth.
Beyond its function as a library, the Athenaeum serves as a vibrant cultural center hosting concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and art classes throughout the year. The intimate Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room regularly features chamber music performances and jazz concerts, while the galleries showcase rotating exhibitions of regional, national, and international artists.
The historic building itself, with its distinctive Spanish Renaissance-style architecture and hand-painted ceilings, contributes to the special ambiance that has made the Athenaeum a beloved cultural landmark for over a century.
