Keller Williams in Venice

Hailing from Virginia, Keller Williams has been carving out his own singular path through the musical landscape since releasing his debut album, FREEK, in 1994. In the three decades since, he’s built one of the most eclectic and unpredictable catalogs in modern music — with each album bearing a single syllable title, each one serving as a concise summation of the concept guiding each project, a distilled snapshot of where Keller’s restless creative mind was at the time.
Keller’s albums reflect his relentless pursuit to create music that sounds like nothing else. Un-beholden to conventionalism, he seamlessly crosses genre boundaries, weaving together rock, jazz, funk and bluegrass into something entirely his own — and always keeping audiences on their feet.
He built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. For most of his career, Keller has performed solo, his stage shows rooted around singing original compositions and choice cover songs while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, bass, guitar synthesizer and drum samples — a technique called live phrase sampling, or “looping.” The end result often leans toward a hybrid of alternative folk and groovy electronica, a genre Keller jokingly calls “acoustic dance music,” or ADM.
But Keller’s constant evolution has led to numerous band projects as well, including Keller & The Keels, Grateful Grass, KWahtro, Keller and the Travelin’ McCourys, Grateful Gospel, More Than A Little, and most recently DeadPettyKellerGrass. You can even catch him from time to time going back to his troubadour roots with his “Shut the Folk Up and Listen” series. Whether playing clubs or festivals, fronting one of his many collaborative projects or delivering his tried-and-true solo looping show, Keller is always changing things up and keeping moving.
