Greetings Funksters. Here’s a quick preview of some concerts on the ol’ calendar this week. We’ve got a couple of shows built around new albums that are being released, so this is a great opportunity to be the first to hear new music.
Thursday
Thursday, Gold-Diggers is hosting the funk ensemble Joy Guerrilla, who opened up for Galactic when they played the Bellwether last summer. They will be accompanied by Coastal, a solo looper dude from SD, in support of the live debut of Shane Sato’s album, “Until We Meet Again”.

Friday

Friday Night at the Mint, Sanford Street is having their album release party with support from fellow jammers Shaky Feelin’ who start the night off at 8pm. This is their second album with 11 new tracks, which they will likely play all the way through. Sanford Street is scheduled to go on at 9:45, with JackiO rounding out the evening at 11:30.

Saturday

Saturday morning, head over to Venice West for some bottomless Mimosas at Grateful Brunch. Grateful Dead tribute act Easy Wind are in town and will be rocking the westside, likely playing two sets. Music goes from 12-3pm but the restaurant opens at 11 if you want to grab a table beforehand.
Later that afternoon, Malibu Music is hosting some LA folk heroes, Rosy Nolan and Leroy from the North, to celebrate legendary luthier Lester William Polsfuss, aka Les Paul. Now that PCH is open again after the fires, it’s a lot easier to daytrip out to Zuma, grab some snacks at Trancas, and catch some guitar greats on Gibsons. Beware the burnzone speedtraps on newly-opened PCH… Keep it under 25 and you’ll be fine…

Or if you’d rather head down the coast, catch hometown heavy-hitters The Great North Special in Laguna Beach, playing the upstairs of Mozambique, aka the newly revamped Ivan’z House Live. Check out this epic poster art!

Sunday

Sunday brings a very Jerry afternoon with The Rum Runners at the Tiki Bar (OC) with special guest Emerson Rose on vocals, and that night at the Greek Theatre we’ve got Dumpstaphunk and JJ Grey & Mofro opening up for New Orleans wunderkind Troy Andrews, aka Trombone Shorty.
