Be among the first to step inside LACMA’s new David Geffen Galleries and experience an unforgettable live performance by renowned composer, bandleader, and saxophonist Kamasi Washington.
For three historic nights, Washington leads a monumental 100+ musician ensemble—many longtime collaborators from Los Angeles—in a sweeping activation of the Geffen Galleries. Musicians will be positioned throughout approximately 110,000 square feet of gallery space, transforming the building itself into an acoustic instrument and an integral part of the performance.
These performances mark the museum’s first public programming in the new Geffen Galleries, designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Peter Zumthor. This is your once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the architectural spaces through the power of live music before artworks are installed ahead of the grand opening in April 2026.
Presented in its entirety for the first time, Washington’s celebrated six-movement suite, Harmony of Difference, explores contrast and unity through the musical concept of counterpoint—a powerful metaphor for what we are building at LACMA.
Kamasi Washington Live is an all-ages event.
