Brainstory + É Arenas + Twin Seas

Brainstory’s new album Sounds Good lives up to its name. Based in L.A. but originally from Rialto, CA, the band consists of brothers Kevin and Tony Martin, along with Eric Hagstrom, who’s become family through music and friendship. Years of touring, backing artists like Lady Wray, and recording in their Long Beach studio have sharpened their skills significantly since their 2019 debut Buck.

Working with producer Leon Michels of Big Crown Records has elevated their sound. On tracks like “Peach Optimo,” his suggestion to play at half-time transformed the song into a one-take wonder. Similarly, his encouragement of Kevin’s Delfonics-style vocals on “Gift of Life” created something “gorgeous, haunting, and profound.” Engineer Jens Jungkurth’s expertise with tones and textures completes this expanded musical brotherhood that has helped Brainstory take their artistry to new heights.

É Arenas, born Eduardo Arenas in Boyle Heights, is a founding member of Chicano Batman who has carved out his own path with his solo project. He’s pioneering a resurgence of 90’s cumbia-quebradita through dance hits like “La Fila de Tommys,” “Takis,” and “Mar Iguana.” His full band, É Arenas & Las Iguanas del Mar, delivers electrifying performances that blend Frank Zappa-esque experimentation with Mi Banda El Mexicano energy, complete with mosh pits and crowd surfing.

Twin Seas rounds out this dynamic bill, promising an evening of genre-bending sounds and captivating performances.
