Ventura’s vibrant music scene offers locals and visitors alike an impressive array of venues catering to every musical taste. The historic Ventura Theater, a beautifully restored 1920s venue, hosts national touring acts across genres from rock and alternative to hip-hop and electronic music. For a more intimate experience, The Grape, located downtown, features local talents and up-and-coming artists in a cozy setting with exceptional acoustics.
Bombay Bar & Grill remains a cornerstone of Ventura’s nightlife, presenting live bands and DJs throughout the week with its famous Sunday afternoon jam sessions drawing impressive local musicians. The nautical-themed Discovery Ventura combines bowling with live performances, offering a unique entertainment experience in a spacious converted warehouse.
The headiest venue in Ventura is the Ventura Music Hall which opened in the post-pandemic year of 2022 and somehow managed to swoop straight into our hearts and bellies with friendly staff, great food and drink, excellent sightlines and just overall comfort for the average concert-goer. Five stars, Heady as Funk is a GIANT FAN.
For those who appreciate outdoor concerts, the Ventura County Fairgrounds regularly hosts larger festivals and events with oceanfront views, while the summer concert series at Plaza Park brings free music to the community. Just down the street is the Crowne Plaza Hotel, that hosts weekly free shows on their Aqua Bar Patio and occasional blowouts at their penthouse conference room overlooking the city. Leashless Brewing has consistent live music out on their patio, so don’t forget to check their website and see who’s performing (we can’t post EVERY great show they have going).
